February is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month
Social media toolkit available now
Action Against Heartburn aims to raise awareness of the connection between ongoing heartburn and oesophageal cancer, urging individuals to seek medical advice if they experience persistent symptoms.
Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month takes place each February.
We have developed a social media toolkit to help individuals / organisation share important information about oesophageal cancer, the seventh most common cause of cancer death in the UK, and its most common symptoms.
The toolkit includes suggested social media posts, graphics and other resources, which you are invited to use to help us spread the message about the signs and symptoms to look out for.
You can access the Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month social media toolkit here. Thank you so much for your support.
If you have any questions about any of the content, please contact Delia Antoine Burdett from our campaign partner - Campaign Collective - via email delia.antoineburdett@campaigncollective.org
February is the month when we make extra efforts to promote awareness of the risks of oesophageal cancer. Our prime concern is the many people who self-medicate with over-the-counter heartburn medication (eg Gaviscon, Nexium, Rennies, Tums). These medications all have information leaflets that advise people to contact their GP if their symptoms persist. We reinforce that advice. Our prime message is that persistent heartburn is not normal, and whilst many over-the-counter medicines are excellent, they can have the effect of masking underlying causes.
We distribute leaflets and posters to pharmacies, GP surgeries, dental practices and other public places in addition to special awareness events.
